Firkins Bakery was started back in 1870 by Mary Firkin with her award-winning pork pies and a single shop in Carters Green, West Bromwich. It expanded across the Black Country, Birmingham and into parts of Staffordshire and became one of the largest regional family bakeries in the country with over 50 shops before its fortunes changed. The Firkin family descendants exited the business in 2006, after which the business went through a more chequered history, and came under a number of ownerships, with many shop closures and multiple administrations before the business closed all its physical shops in March 2015. The Firkins brand and certain assets were then taken over in April 2015 by its current owners and refocused as a celebration cake manufacturer and ingredients specialist wholesaler.

Following our 150th Anniversary year in 2020, Firkins Bakery relaunched online to specialise in providing a complete range of cake decorating supplies and equipment for professionals and hobby bakers. We wanted to provide an online shop that brought all baking supplies and sugarcraft essentials such as cake mixes, cake drums and sugarpaste into one place, along with our own brand cake mixes and pre-baked sponges & fruit cakes. Making us a one stop shop for celebration cakes, with the tools and supplies for you to make your own or for us to hand craft you a fully finished bespoke cake.

However after 10 years away from the high street, hundreds of you are still talking about our fabulous cakes, bread and pastry classics. With many of you messaging us via social media to ask if we would start making our sweet and savoury treats for home delivery or if we would ever be tempted to return as a high street baker? Well, thanks to your continued support after all this time, we are returning to West Bromwich High street. Our new bakery will open on 27th August 2025 inside the brand new Indoor Market, we can’t wait to see you!
